MACHINE OPERATOR - PRINTING
6 PM – 6 AM   2-2-3 STRAIGHT SCHEDULE – NO ROTATION
ENTRY LEVEL $18-22/HR.
 
Position Overview:  Operate Machine as per customer requirements.  Keep work area compliant with 6 S and lean manufacturing principles. 
Machine Operator Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Operate work center in a safe manner and identify unsafe work behaviors, areas, and methods.  
  • Participate in the quality of finished products that meets specifications and meets/exceeds established production standards.
  • Maintain film for Machine and put new parent rolls on machine.  
  • Ensure adequate and proper cartons are available prior to product runs.  
  • Identify and react to production problems (safety, quality, shortage of raw materials, out of spec raw materials and inventory issues.)
  • Perform machine clean-ups as required.  Maintain a clean, organized, “set in order”, and “shine” environment in the work areas.  
  • Troubleshoot machine problems and determine which problems need to escalate to maintenance and/or plant supervisor.
  • Attend and participate in meetings and training sessions as required (e.g. safety, quality, production, teams, informational, continuous improvement, and others) as requested.
  • All other assignments assigned by management.
 
Machine Operator Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • No physical limitations. Ability to stand, bend, walk, reach, stretch, lift, and get on and off forklift or clamp lift without any physical issues during the 12-hour shift.
  • Experience in warehousing/shipping environments is helpful.
  • Experience in quality management systems (FDA, ISO, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, etc.) is helpful.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.  (Such as machine operation instructions, safety instructions, etc.)
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience to use basic tools including wrenches, hammers, utility knives, screwdrivers, brooms, and measuring devices in rulers and scales, etc., used in a manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness and flexibility to work a variety of shifts that involve all days of the week as needed.  This includes ability and willingness to work overtime on short notice as determined by the business. 
  • Ability to perform basic computer operations such as email, data entry, navigation skills within system and desktop, etc.   Experience and ability to operate computer keyboard.
  • Ability to effectively communicate.
  • Able to work independently and follow instructions.
  • Able to work as an effective team member.
  • Willingness to cross train.
  • Able to work 12-hour shifts and overtime as needed.
  • Regular attendance is required to provide continuity and accomplishment of job responsibilities on a continual and timely basis.  
  • Must follow instructions for safety and proper job performance; We all PPE as required. 
  • Forklift and clamp truck certification.  
  • Shaft up between 2 and 8 new rolls of paper per shift.  
  • Open and stage film rolls into place by hand and put film onto the machine using shafts. 
  • Slab 2 to 8 rolls of film per shift to remove damaged stock and place it into the scrap box.  (slab stock can weigh 100 pounds/move in smaller parts)
  • Splice new rolls of film to existing web and thread machine when necessary.  (Ability to climb ladder and reach overhead)
  • Carry broke rolls and make ready rolls to broke holder by hand 2 to 8 times per shift.  (Rolls could weigh up to 70 pounds).
  • Use a forklift to move raw materials to and from the machine.  (Ability to get on and off the forklift numerous times per shift)
  • Place headers and edge guards on finish rolls when returning stock.  (Ability to bend and reach)
  • Must be able to stand and walk up to approximately 12 hours per shift.
  • Required to meet the overall work classification of “Medium Work” as defined in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (D.O.T).  
  • Need manual dexterity and accurate eyesight.  
  • Exposure to temperatures and paper dust.
  • Exposure to noise levels exceeding 90 dB. 
  • Must be able to communicate verbally through regular conversation and shouting (in loud environments) and using hand signals (as needed).
